Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins defenseman Mac Hollowell heading to Spengler Cup
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins defenseman Mac Hollowell was named to Canada’s roster for the upcoming Spengler Cup in Davos, Switzerland.
Hockey Canada announced its roster via a release on Friday.
The tournament, which will be staged from Dec. 26-31, is a unique event that features professional European teams and a squad from Canada mostly composed of former NHLers. Ex-Penguins forwards Josh Jooris is on Canada’s roster for the second consecutive year.
Players with active NHL contracts, such as Hollowell, do not typically participate.
Hollowell joined the Pittsburgh Penguins as an unrestricted free agent this past offseason, signing a one-year, two-way contract with a salary cap hit of $775,000 on July 1.
A right-handed shot, Hollowell, 26, has emerged as one of Wilkes-Barre/Scranton’s leading producers this season. In 21 games, he has 15 points (all assists), most among all AHL Penguins defensemen.
