Forward Brad Malone spent parts of nine seasons in the NHL as a member of the Edmonton Oilers, Colorado Avalanche and Carolina Hurricanes.

The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins hired former NHL forward Brad Malone as an assistant coach. His appointment was announced Monday.

Malone, 36, retired as an active player following the 2023-24 season and jumped into the coaching ranks in 2024-25 with the Oshawa Generals of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). Initially hired as a development coach with the Generals, Malone was promoted to interim head coach Dec. 9.

As interim head coach, Malone guided the Generals to a 23-11-3-1 record and the OHL championship final as Eastern Conference champions.

A fourth-round draft pick (No. 105 overall) of the Colorado Avalanche in 2007, Malone enjoyed a 14-year career as a professional, including parts of nine seasons in the NHL with the Avalanche, Carolina Hurricanes and Edmonton Oilers.

Malone, a native of Miramichi, New Brunswick, is the cousin and nephew of former Pittsburgh Penguins forwards Ryan and Greg Malone, respectively.
