Remarkably, Lamar Jackson has only three career starts against the Pittsburgh Steelers. It appears likely that will remain the case for at least another few weeks.
Jackson, the Baltimore Ravens’ star quarterback, left Sunday’s Baltimore win against the Denver Broncos because of injury. Ravens coach John Harbaugh on Monday implied it was far more likely that Tyler Huntley starts for his team during Sunday’s scheduled game against the Steelers at Acrisure Stadium.
“(Jackson) has been through the MRIs, and I would say it’s kind of week-to-week,” Harbaugh told reporters in Baltimore. “It’s going to be a weekly thing, so as the week goes on, we’ll see for this week. It’s probably less likely (Jackson plays) this week, but it’s not impossible. Then after that, it will become more and more likely.”

A five-year veteran of 70 NFL games and 61 starts at quarterback, Jackson has made nine starts against the AFC North rival Cleveland Browns and eight against the Cincinnati Bengals. But for a variety of reasons Jackson, the 2019 NFL MVP, has not made nearly as many starts against the Steelers:
During his rookie 2018 season, Jackson was still backing up veteran Joe Flacco through nine games, and it just so happened both Ravens/Steelers meetings that year came between Weeks 1-9. Jackson sat out the 2019 season finale because Baltimore had wrapped up the No. 1 seed in the AFC playoffs. Jackson missed the thrice-delayed Thanksgiving week 2020 meeting with the Steelers because he was on the NFL covid-19 list. Last season, Jackson did not play in the home game against the Steelers because of an ankle injury.Huntley started that Week 18 matchup and went 16 for 31 for 141 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions as the Steelers won in overtime to earn a playoff spot. Huntley is 1-3 in his career as a starter and has completed 27 of 32 pass attempts this season for 187 yards, no touchdowns and an interception.
Sunday, Huntley engineered a 16-play, 91-yard drive in the final 5 minutes that resulted in the winning touchdown of the Ravens’ win against Denver.

“Our players have a lot of confidence in him,” Harbaugh said of Huntley. “I’m sure a team like the Steelers is going to be looking if he’s out there — and he’s probably going to take most of the reps this week — they’ll be preparing for both guys, I would think. Both guys play a similar game. We run the same basic offense with both players, so it’s not really going to change anything in terms of preparation I don’t think.
“(Huntley) is a player that has a lot of dynamics to his game. He can throw. He can run. He operates really well. He’s not as experienced, obviously, but he is experienced. He’s been out there. Last year he was out there for five, six, seven games — right — (and) this year now. If that’s the way it goes, that’s the way it goes. We’ll be excited to play, and our guys will be fired up.”
