Yough grad Scott Houseman, lineman at Lackawanna, makes Division I commitment
An official visit to Albany over the weekend solidified Scott Houseman’s impressions of the football program and reassured him that it is the place for him.
The big redshirt freshman lineman who plays at Lackawanna announced Monday night his commitment to Albany, which is coached by former Duquesne coach Greg Gattuso.
“It’s about good football, and the staff is really experienced and know what the’re doing,” said Houseman, a Yough graduate.
He wrote in his announcement, “Going JUCO was the best choice of my life. I took a gamble on myself and I couldn’t be happier.”
Houseman said he will sign during the NCAA’s early period, which starts Wednesday.
“All the hard work and thoughts of me playing D-1 really paid off,” he said.
Houseman, who had several Division-I offers, said his top three were Albany, Southeast Missouri and Robert Morris.
A starter on the offensive line this season, the 6-foot-4, 300-pound Houseman also had offers from Louisiana-Monroe, Delaware State, Merrimack, and St. Francis (Pa.). Lackawanna finished 10-1 after a loss to Mississippi Gulf Coast in the junior college national championship.
