Rookie TE Zach Gentry returns to Steelers practice after injury

Pittsburgh Steelers rookie Zach Gentry had a touchdown in his preseason debut.

After missing his second game, the tight end apparently will get another chance in game No. 3.

Gentry returned to practice in a full capacity Friday, and expects to play Sunday against the Tennessee Titans.

“It felt good to be back out there,” the 6-foot-7 former Michigan quarterback said. “I was able to kind of keep up with everything mentally, so I was able to like get back on the (proverbial) bike.”

Gentry is a candidate to serve as the No. 3 tight end this season. With him out of practice with an apparent chest or rib injury, Kevin Rader, Trevor Wood and Micky Crum received more reps in practice and in last week’s defeat of the Kansas City Chiefs.

With the third preseason game typically the domain of the starters, it’s possible Gentry could play with Ben Roethlisberger and Co.

“I am not sure what Coach has planned,” he said, “but whatever it is, I’ll take it and roll with it.

“I’m excited to get back out there and see if I can make some more plays.”
