Work continues on a new Dollar General store location under construction on Business Route 66 in Hempfield.

The store, which will employ up to 10 people, is set to open early next year, company spokeswoman Emma Hall said.

The property shares a driveway with Comcast Technical Operations at 247 Business Route 66 and is located across the street from North Hempfield Self-Storage. The building previously housed a roller skating rink and a machine shop and is being converted into a store.

Workers recently tore the front off of the building, which will be outfitted with a new facade.

The Goodlettstown, Tenn.-based chain operates about 20 locations in Westmoreland County.

The company has more than 17,000 locations across the country and reported $33.7 billion in sales. It has more than 157,000 employees.
