Maya Martin of Leechburg gives a presentation to a tour group while portraying Joan of Arc, who was canonized as a saint of the Roman Catholic Church in 1920, during the first Lantern Saint Tour on Friday at St. Emma Monastery in Hempfield.

Greensburg Catholic Schoolhouse and St. Emma Monastery hosted a Lantern Saint Tour last week in honor of the feasts of All Saints and All Souls. All Saints Day was Monday, and All Souls Day is today.

Lantern-lit walking tours were held on the grounds of the monastery in Hempfield, with volunteers dressed as saints for live portrayals. Proceeds benefited the monastery.

The sisters of St. Emma Monastery came to the U.S. in 1931 from Germany, arriving at Saint Vincent Archabbey.

By 1943, they purchased their current home as well as 10 acres from the John Robertshaw family. Later, they bought the adjacent 100-acre farm.
