This week: MasterChef comes to Greensburg; Westmoreland, regional Veterans Day events

“MasterChef Live!” comes to The Palace Theatre at 7 p.m. Wednesday

The family friendly show will feature past “MasterChef” and “MasterChef Junior” contestants pitted in head-to-head cooking demonstrations and challenges. It is based on the Fox TV series “MasterChef,” a cooking competition show which features hosts/judges Gordon Ramsay, Aaron Sanchez and Joe Bastianich.

Noah Sims, a Season 10 contestant, will not appear as previously reported because of a scheduling conflict.

Tickets are $26-$48. A $125 VIP experience also is available, offering premium seats, a signed show poster and a cast meet-and-greet with photo opportunity one hour before showtime.

Tickets for the original show date, and two previously rescheduled dates, will be honored Nov. 10. Ticket-holders who have ave a conflict with the rescheduled date can find out about ticketing options at 724-836-8000 or by emailing boxoffice@wctrust.net.

Thursday is Veterans Day

Here is a listing of some local events being held to commemorate the holiday:

• YWCA Westmoreland County will host a celebration of women veterans, 1-3 p.m. Thursday at 424 N. Main St., Greensburg. Registration is required: 724-834-9390.

• Norwin Elks members and guest veterans will be treated to a complimentary spaghetti dinner with a salad and non-alcoholic drink from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, 135 Elks Lane, Manor. Other guests will be billed for dinner and drinks. For more information, contact Don Rohac at 412-260-8064 or sfc56@comcast.net.

• J. Howard Snyder Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 781 of North Huntingdon will hold a Veterans Day ceremony at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Billott Avenue post.

• The National Cemetery of the Alleghenies (1158 Morgan Road, Bridgeville) will hold a ceremony starting at 11 a.m. Thursday. Parking will be limited by an expansion project, and cars will be turned away once spaces are filled.

Keynote speaker will be Brig. Gen. Jake Kwon, Commander of the 316th Sustainment Command. Ceremonial taps will be played with a rifle salute by the Marine Corps league Detachment 1138, along with musical selections by the Canon-McMillan High School Band and choir. Two ceremonial wreaths will be placed in honor of all Veterans and POW/MIAs. Event is expected to last 50 minutes.
