More than 50 people came out last week to mark the grand opening of the YWCA Westmoreland County’s used book store in Greensburg.

The store opened Oct. 1, and a ribbon-cutting was held Nov. 9.

It is staffed by YWCA volunteers and replaces used book sales that have been held previously with a store that has regular hours. People also can donate books to the store, YWCA Executive Director Carol Palcic said. Encyclopedias and textbooks aren’t accepted, she said.

“We had some space in the building that we wanted to use,” Palcic said of the store in the YWCA building at 424 N. Main St.

The store is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the first Saturday of each month.

The prices are $2 for a hardcover book, $1 for a paperback and 50 cents for children’s books. There also will be monthly specials and other promotions, Palcic said.

In December, all books will be 50% off.
