Rita Pauline (Basko) Burns, 89, of Leechburg, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2022, in her residence. A daughter of the late Vincent Basko and Mary Pauline (Demyan) Basko, she was born June 30, 1932. Rita had been employed as a production line worker by the former Joseph S. Finch Co. (Schenley Distillery) before retirement. She was also employed at the United Dairy Farm store in Leechburg and worked as a cashier. Rita was a member of the Hebron Evangelical Lutheran Church, Leechburg. Rita was affectionately known by the name given to her by her grandsons, Jacob and Brandon, as “Magga May” to all who loved her. She was a strong-willed and spirited lady who made her family laugh every day. She enjoyed playing bingo every Monday night at the Leechburg Fire Hall. Rita liked watching sports on TV, especially the Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers. Among professional athletes, she loved James Harden, but was not fond of Tom Brady. The hightlights of Rita’s life were her grandchildren, Kaylee, Brandon and Jacob; as well as her nephews, Mark and Anthony Varrato; and niece, Lynette Schoop. She spoke with them every day and always looked forward to her suprises in the mail. She also enjoyed visits from her favorite visiting nurse, Kristin Ventura; and special friends, Heather, Missy and Roni Sue. Survivors include her daughter, Mary Ann Fello (David), of Hyde Park; her son, Vincent Burns (Anissa), of Harrisburg; five grandchildren, Kaylee Fello, Brandon Fello, Jacob Fello, Tyler Burns and Emily Burns; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer B. Burns, in 1985; a sister, Frances Varrato; and a nephew, Ricky Varrato. Friends will be welcomed by her family from 1 p.m. until the time of funeral ceremonies at 5 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 23, 2022, at CLAWSON FUNERAL AND CREMATION CENTER, 170 Main St., Leechburg, 724-842-1051, with the Rev. David L. lllar, 88, of Washington, Pa., formerly from Apollo, passed Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2022, after a short battle with lung cancer. He enjoyed swimming, playing golf, watching sports and Fox News. He is survived by his five sons, David (Vicki) Illar, of Plum, Thomas (Debbie) Illar, of West Mifflin, Jeffrey lllar, of Blacksville, W. Va., Brian (Beverly) lllar, of West Leechburg, and Peter (Cristine) Illar, of Washington, Pa.; and six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Also, he is survived by his sister, Harriette (Ken) Apel, of Pittsburgh. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice; parents, Peter and Julia Illar; and sisters, Lois Akerley and Beryl Logan. Carole Ann Miller, 79, of Parks Township, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2022, with her family by her side after a lengthy illness. Born Oct. 14, 1942, she is the daughter of the late Wesley and Edna Lee Grantz. Carole was a member of St. Paul’s Highfield Lutheran Church in Parks Township and had been employed by the Armstrong County Area on Aging until March of 2021. She was a lifetime resident of the Kepple Hill section of Parks Township. Carole enjoyed baking, crafting, dancing and most of all spending time with her grandchildren. Carole and her husband, Clair, loved to dance and were members of the Hoe-Downers. They were also members of a camping group traveling with friends. Carole enjoyed sprucing up any party or gathering with her festive touches. She loved to give to others and was always finding ways to help those less fortunate or anyone in need. Throughout her life, Carole was active as an elder, Sunday school and Vacation Bible School teacher for Reformation Lutheran Church. She was active and enjoyed working for Armstrong County at the polling places on election days. She was also a past member of the Parks Township Volunteer Fire Department and had served as an emergency medical technician. Survivors include two daughters, Krystal (Richard) Cappo, of West Leechburg, and Kimberly (Eric) Johnson, of Pittsburgh; two sons, Kevin (Darlene) Miller, of Gilpin Township, and Karlin (Ashley Parks) Miller, of Parks Township; six grandchildren, Stephanie (Chad) Rice, Stacy Cappo, Devin Miller, Garrett (Jamie) Miller and Brayden and Karley Miller; a brother, Dennis (Elaine) Grantz, of Elizabeth; and her very dear friend, Father William Rex, of Philadelphia. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clair F. Miller, in 2000, and a sister, Patricia (Grantz) Crawford. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the DUNMIRE- KERR & ROWE FUNERAL HOME INC., 244 Franklin Ave., Vandergrift. Additional visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of services at 11 a.m. Monday in the St. Paul’s Highfield Lutheran Church, Dime Road, with her Pastor, Ryan Pusch, officiating. David A. Ostrosky Sr., a.k.a. “The Grey Ghost,” loving father, grandfather, brother and uncle, died peacefully at the age of 75, Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2022. He was born July 13, 1946, in New Kensington, the only son of the late Albert and Enis Zandona Ostrosky. David was a member of Mount St. Peter Roman Catholic Church. He was a graduate of Rosedale Technical Institute, Class of 1963. He worked for many years and retired from Alcoa. Dave loved restoring classic and antique cars. When he wasn’t working in the garage, he enjoyed spending time on Lake Erie and the Allegheny River fishing and boating with family and friends. Many people will remember him by one of his classic cars, a green 1936 Plymouth Coupe, that you could find parked across the street from his favorite restaurant, Eat ‘n Park. Though his presence will be deeply missed, his spirit will live on in the hearts of his surviving children, Dave (Beth) Ostrosky Jr., Diane (Scott) Wolford and Joe (Donna) Ostrosky; grandchildren, Kristen (Chase) Hemphill, Alison and Andrew Ostrosky, Zack (fiance Dayle), Brittney and Kasey Wolford, Chad (Mindy), Evan and Marisa Ostrosky; great-granddaughter, Luna; sister, Sylvia Gavasto; nephew, Dan Gavasto; niece, Denise Morris; and his cat, Mickey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved grandson, Christopher Yount, who died in 2002. Jared W. Schweitzer, 36, of New Kensington, formerly of Springdale, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2022. He was born March 8, 1985, to his late parents, Dale and Linda (Borland) Schweitzer. He graduated from Springdale High School in 2003 and worked for the Liquor Control Board for the past 14 years. Jared was a talented drummer who started drumming at the age of 10. He went on to be involved with concert, jazz and marching bands, where he was drum captain for four years. After high school, he was a drum instructor with the Renaissance Drum & Bugle Corps for six years. Jared was part of multiple bands over the last two decades and was most recently a member of the Gemtones. Jared enjoyed rocking out at concerts and traveling to see his favorite bands. He also enjoyed seeing movies on opening weekend, playing video games and spending time with his loved ones. Surviving him are his brother, Ryne Schweitzer; loving girlfriend, Crystal Sasinoski; stepfather, Dennis Duffy; uncle, Dan “Puff” Borland, aunt, Susan (Jerry) Klingenberg, uncle, Timmy (Diana) Borland, and aunt, Patti (John) Dickens; as well as many loving cousins and friends. Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by his uncle, Jack Borland, and aunt, Gayle Prasnikar.
