About a year ago, Uniontown fashion photographer Robin Ann Moore received an email asking her to sign over the rights to some of her work for possible inclusion in an unnamed feature film. She was surprised but thought little of it, filled out the paperwork and moved on.
“They never disclosed the movie or anything about it,” Moore told TribLive.
Then, a couple of weeks ago, she was tagged in a post on Instagram by Milan Weekly and discovered that her photo had been selected to be part of background set dressing for smash-hit sequel “The Devil Wears Prada 2.”
It was quite a shock.
“It was mind-blowing,” she said.
Her photograph of local model Lorean Seaton is on the cover of one in a stack of Milan Weekly magazines in the film, along with covers bearing photos by three other photographers from around the world.
Moore’s photos have appeared in American Vogue, Marie Claire and other fashion publications.
She’s a native of Fayette County and runs her business, Ar’moore Model and Talent Group, out of the Brownstone Building in Uniontown.
The 65-year-old has been fascinated by photography since her grandfather and mother became interested in cameras in the 1960s.
“Everywhere we went, everything we did, my mother had cameras,” Moore said.
Whether it was cutting-edge equipment or disposable film cameras, there were always pictures being taken by her family.
“The passion for just photography period was always there, and I think it’s because I was around it. It’s almost like you’re born into something and it becomes part of you.”
For decades, she’s responded to calls from magazines for photos, a way to feed her creative side. She attributes her love of fashion photography to her vision.
“When I look though the camera lens, I see textures. I see colors. I see dimensions. I see things other people don’t see,” Moore said.
Her agency books talent from all around the world. “And talent travels to us,” she said.
But many of those models and talented individuals are also local.
“There’s some amazing things right here,” she said. “It’s a testament to what is here if people would just look around.”
Despite the fact that her photo is visible on the big screen, Moore hasn’t gotten to see “The Devil Wears Prada 2” yet.
“Everybody keeps asking, ’ Oh my god, you didn’t go see your work?’ And I say, ‘oh, I’ll make it there.’ ”
