Allegheny County police on Wednesday filed homicide charges in connection with the midday killing of a man in McKees Rocks last month, authorities said.

David Goodwine, 29, of McKees Rocks, faces homicide and firearms charges for the alleged shooting of 35-year-old Brian Irby on Oct. 7.

Irby, also of McKees Rocks, was found with a single gunshot wound to the chest on Fair Oaks Street about 4:30 p.m. the day of the shooting. Officers performed CPR but Irby was pronounced dead about 45 minutes later at Allegheny General Hospital.

Police described Goodwine as about 6 feet, 2 inches tall and about 200 pounds. He is known to frequent McKees Rocks, Homestead and Pittsburgh’s North Side. Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or the county police tip line at 1-833-255-8477.

A witness who had been at Irby’s house told police that Irby, just before the shooting, had been involved in a drug deal at his house, according to the criminal complaint. He said the alleged shooter, who the witness didn’t know but Irby did, robbed Irby and took off.

The witness said Irby called the alleged shooter, who was supposed to come back and return what he’d stolen, but he instead came back and shot Irby, according to the complaint.

A second witness turned over surveillance footage from their home on Fair Oaks Street. Police said the footage showed an older model GMC Yukon pull up in front of Irby’s home, followed soon after by Irby in a Dodge Charger.

According to the complaint, the footage showed a tussle between Irby and the man, later identified as Goodwine. Irby is seen moving to one side of his car and then “immediately falls to the ground,” police wrote.

Security footage from a different camera earlier that day captured the alleged drug deal and robbery that preceded the shooting.

According to the complaint, the footage showed the GMC Yukon turning onto Fair Oaks Street and parking near Irby’s home. Irby comes outside with a backpack, and an interaction occurs before the Yukon takes off.

Investigators later spotted a similar Yukon for sale on Facebook and, after getting a warrant, set up a meeting with Goodwine, according to the complaint. The SUV was there, but Goodwine was not, and police towed the car. A check of Goodwine’s cellphone records showed he was near Irby’s home several times the day of the shooting.
