Amid Point State Park upgrades, where will Pittsburgh hold July 4 events?

Pittsburgh’s Independence Day celebrations this year will be moved to the North Shore Riverwalk and Emerald View Park’s Grandview Bandstand in Allentown.

The city can’t hold its annual 4th of July festivities at Point State Park this summer as it usually does because of ongoing upgrades at the park.

Pittsburgh’s Independence Day events will start at 4 p.m. on the North Shore, with activities like a children’s fun zone, a hot air balloon and musical performances on the PNC Great Lawn. There will be an area dedicated to connecting veterans with career, housing and wellness resources.

Food trucks will be parked along North Shore Drive and a stage will be set up on the Riverwalk.

Fireworks will begin at 9:35 p.m.

There will be music, food and children’s activities at Emerald View Park’s Grandview Bandstand from 4 p.m. until 10 p.m.

“Independence Day in Pittsburgh is more than just fireworks — it’s a powerful celebration of community, freedom and resilience,” Mayor Ed Gainey said in a statement. “This year, we’re bringing the energy to new locations across the city, with incredible entertainment, family fun, and heartfelt tributes to our veterans.”

The new venues come as the state is investing $3.4 million in upgraded amenities, walkways and lighting at Point State Park. The project also will improve lighting, fix leaks and install new controllers at the park’s iconic fountain.

During construction, large events typically hosted at the park are being relocated, and the fountain is remaining off this summer.

Point State Park next year will host the 2026 NFL Draft and events to mark the nation’s 250th anniversary.
