The Food Podcast is made possible each week, in large part, thanks to Clearview Federal Credit Union.

Through their sponsorship, the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank is able to share stories of supporters, staff, volunteers and more. During the pandemic, Clearview has faced its own challenges while still making the community a priority.

“Clearview is a community-based financial institution and our heart is always with our neighbors, our members and the communities that we serve,” said Ron Celaschi, Clearview president and CEO.

Like so many other companies, Clearview had to determine how to continue operations with safety in mind. Many families faced unexpected financial hardship and Clearview was charged with helping them navigate it.

“We didn’t have a playbook for this, although you have a business continuity plan, a pandemic plan … these are things you really never think you’re going to have to refer to,” Celaschi said. “But I think we’ve done a great job in being agile, in being nimble and being able to serve our members and the community while keeping our employees both employed and safe in that work environment.”

Celaschi said they worked through challenges and are grateful for where they stand today.

“Clearview was fortunate in this past year to be able to continue to serve our neighbors and assist them without any reduction in staff,” he said.

While assisting families in Southwestern Pa. financially, Clearview also made it a priority to give back. Celaschi and his staff donated to local organizations, including the food bank, even volunteering at some drive-up food distributions.

“Even being a partner with the food bank, I never had heard the term ‘food insecurity’ prior to see what’s happening at some of the distributions,” Celaschi said.

He said he envisions the partnership with the food bank continuing for years to come.
