An incarcerated man at the Allegheny County Jail died after being stabbed on Wednesday afternoon, officials said.

Warden Trevor Wingard emailed members of the Jail Oversight Board at 2:23 p.m. to report the incident, which had occurred at 1:10 p.m. on Pod 4D, according to board member Bethany Hallam.

The email said that the man was assaulted by other incarcerated individuals and died at the jail. Allegheny County police are investigating, a spokesman confirmed.

Hallam said that she learned separately from two jail staff members that the victim was stabbed.
