A 44-year-old incarcerated man at the Allegheny County Jail died after being stabbed on Wednesday afternoon, officials said.

Warden Trevor Wingard emailed members of the Jail Oversight Board at 2:23 p.m. to report the death, which he said occurred at 1:10 p.m. The incident, the email said, was on Pod 4D, according to board member Bethany Hallam.

Allegheny County police are investigating, a spokesman confirmed.

In a news release, the county said that the victim’s family has been notified.

Defense attorney Casey White confirmed Wednesday afternoon that the victim of the stabbing was his client, Tyrone Good.

Good had been held at the jail since April 14, when he was extradited back to Pittsburgh from Georgia, where he was arrested on a homicide charge.

“Tyrone’s family is devastated by his death while in custody,” White said. “They are in utter shock after receiving a call this afternoon that he had been killed. At this stage, there are far more questions than answers.”

According to a county news release, preliminary information shows that at 12:48 p.m. on Wednesday, multiple incarcerated people entered the victim’s cell and assaulted Good.

He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

According to the statement, everyone involved in the incident is accounted for.

Hallam said that she learned separately from two jail staff members that Good was stabbed.

Good was picked up on a warrant March 28 at an Atlanta airport, police said.

He was charged with killing his girlfriend, Michelle Sturdivant, whose body was found at a home on Watson Boulevard in Perry North on Dec. 28.

Police said Sturdivant, 44, had been beaten and burned. Good was accused of attacking the woman at his West End apartment on Wabash Street before moving her to the North Side.
