A 51-year-old woman shot and killed a man in Duquesne early Sunday morning, according to Allegheny County Police.

Diane Hopkins, of Duquesne, is charged with one count of criminal homicide.

According to a criminal complaint, Duquesne police responded to a report of a man shot inside a home around 1:30 a.m. in the 100 block of South Sixth Street.

A Duquesne officer encountered Hopkins at the front door. She told the officer, “I shot him, I shot him,” and motioned toward the dining room, the complaint states.

The officer found the man, identified in the complaint as Robert Neal, lying on the dining room floor with an apparent gunshot wound to the head.

Neal was pronounced dead at the scene, the complaint states.

A Smith & Wesson .22 caliber pistol was found on the dining room table, according to the complaint.

Police obtained a search warrant for the home and recovered one spent .22 caliber cartridge casing from the front entryway, and one .22 caliber bullet from the floor between the living room and dining room, the complaint states.

Hopkins was denied bail at an arraignment Sunday morning and was being held in the Allegheny County Jail, according to court records. Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 8.
