Man hospitalized after morning stabbing in Downtown Pittsburgh

A Downtown Pittsburgh stabbing left a man hospitalized in critical condition early Wednesday.

Pittsburgh police found the man, who they did not name, lying on the ground and screaming around 5 a.m. near the intersection of Liberty Avenue and Smithfield Street, a spokeswoman said.

He had been stabbed multiple times in the back and upper torso, police said. The victim was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.

No arrests have been announced.

Pittsburgh police reported 18 assaults and three nonfatal shootings Downtown so far this year, through May 31, online data shows. No homicides have been reported in the city’s central business district.

TribLive news partner WTAE said several evidence markers were laid out this morning in front of the Arcade Comedy Theater at 943 Liberty Ave.
