The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh said temperatures came close, but ultimately fell short of record-breaking heat Monday.
NWS meteorologist Andrew Kienzle said Monday’s high was 89 degrees, as recorded at 5 p.m. at Pittsburgh International Airport.
The highest temperature on record for May 18 was 91 degrees, set in 1877 and tied in 1962.
Kienzle said reports indicate that Monday should be the hottest day of the week. Tuesday’s temperatures are forecast to reach 88 degrees and fall to 65 in the late evening.
The record for May 19 was 93, set in 1877, according to NWS.
Kienzle said Wednesday through Friday temperatures should be in the 70s with the heat rising back into the 80s this weekend.
