A Carnegie man who led police on a wild high-speed chase on Route 28 in 2015 has pleaded guilty to federal drug distribution charges.

William Thompson, 36, is scheduled to be sentenced Nov. 5 by Senior U.S. District Judge Joy Flowers Conti for possession with intent to distribute heroin.

He was taken into custody Aug. 7, 2015.

Police attempted to stop Thompson that day when he was operating a Porsche Cheyenne without a license.

Authorities said he fled from police along the Route 28 expressway reaching speeds of more than 100 mph.

He sideswiped three vehicles and crashed near the 40th Street Bridge ramp in Millvale.

Thompson ran from the scene.

Officers from Pittsburgh, Millvale, Shaler, Ross and the state police spent hours combing the woods along the Allegheny River and near Millvale Riverfront Park looking for Thompson.

He was eventually captured.

Authorities said investigators recovered more than a kilogram of heroin — worth about $376,000 — from his vehicle.

The FBI Greater Pittsburgh Safe Streets Task Force conducted the investigation that led to Thompson’s prosecution.
