A portion of the North Shore River Walk is closed Friday morning because of flooding concerns.

The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh expanded a flood watch through 9:45 a.m. across the region, including Allegheny, Westmoreland, Armstrong, Butler, Clarion and Indiana counties.

The Mon Wharf remains closed as well after authorities issued an early closure in anticipation of the nearly 2 inches of rain that fell this week.

More parking is available at the First Avenue garage and Second Avenue plaza.

The rain, combined with snow melt, will cause the Ohio River to rise above action stage, meteorologist Shannon Hefferan said.

The National Weather Service is calling for the Ohio River to crest at 22.1 feet tonight.

The 10th Street Bypass remains open.

Temperatures today are expected to drop to about 26 degrees by 5 p.m. with severe wind and gusts of 36 mph.

Wind chills are expected to be near zero overnight.

Rain could move back in Sunday. Because the ground is already saturated, there is flooding potential for small streams.
