A reputed Penn Hills gang member was ordered to spend more than five years in federal prison for having a gun when he was selling illicit drugs, according to the U.S. Attorney’s office in Pittsburgh.

Jaamiyl Dean, age 43, of the 100 block of Quail Drive, was sentenced Friday morning in federal district court by Senior United States District Judge Reggie B. Walton. He had pleaded guilty in July.

Prosecutors told the court that Dean was heard in FBI and federal Drug Enforcement Administration wiretaps investigating violence committed by the Greenway Boy Killas (GBK) street gang and drug trafficking. The crimes occurred in and around the Mountainview and Crafton Heights housing developments in an area of the West End known as the Greenway projects.

The gang is accused of shootings in Pittsburgh’s West End, Homestead and Munhall.

According to court records, a June 20, 2018 search of Dean’s home and car uncovered guns, ammunition, drug packaging and $64,000 in cash. Dean is a convicted felon who can’t legally have guns or ammunition.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys Tonya Sulia Goodman and Yvonne M. Saadi prosecuted the case.

U.S. Attorney Scott W. Brady commended the FBI and the Drug Enforcement Administration, who jointly led the investigation, which also included the state Attorney General’s Office, the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police, Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office, state police, Robinson Township, Stowe Township, Wilkinsburg and McKees Rocks police departments.
