Lockdowns at two Pittsburgh schools were lifted by 10 a.m. Friday, and a threat made by a student in the South Park School District was deemed not credible, authorities said.

Pittsburgh Public Schools spokeswoman Ebony Pugh said a gun was found near Taylor Allderdice High School in Squirrel Hill at about 8:40 a.m. , prompting a lockdown that was lifted at 9:40 a.m.

Pittsburgh Brashear High School in Beechview also started Friday on a modified lockdown today after a potential threat was reported through the Safe2Say program, Pugh said.

That lockdown was lifted shortly after 10 a.m., Pugh said.

Safe2Say is a state-mandated program that was launched earlier this year and allows students and staff to report suspicious information anonymously.

Police were also investigating a potential threat made to students in the South Park School District, according to Trib news partner WPXI.

A letter sent to families from Superintendent Wayne Gdovic on Thursday said a student at South Park Elementary Center may have made a threat about bringing a weapon to school today.

Director of School Police Todd Naylor worked with the South Park Township department, spoke with the student’s family and determined the threat was not credible. The school was open as usual.
