An escaped convict was apprehended Sunday in Butler County, according to state police.

State police said troopers responded to a report of an escaped convict around 10:45 a.m. at the Fairground Market in Prospect.

The caller told police that the convict, Dustin Phillip Miller, 34, was out on a four-hour furlough from the Mercer County Jail to pick up items for an upcoming work release program. He was due to return to the jail at noon.

Miller plead guilty in April 2023 to DUI, fleeing or attempting to elude police, recklessly endangering another person, reckless driving, driving with a suspended or revoked license. He was sentenced to serve up to three years on the fleeing charge, according to court records.

While stopping at the market, Miller ran into the tree line in the area with a tan grocery bag of clothing, state police said.

State police said Miller was apprehended and in police custody.

State police did not provide any details on Miller’s apprehension.
