One candidate claimed victory for two different seats on the Tarentum Council on Tuesday.

Carrie Fox was elected to be council member at-large and also to represent the 3rd Ward.

Fox, a Democrat, defeated Republican Tiffany Babinsack for the member at-large position, taking 60.4% of the vote to Babinsack’s 38.1%, according to unofficial tallies.

Fox was simultaneously running unopposed for reelection in her previous position in the 3rd Ward.

“When you run, you take every opportunity you can, any way you can serve this community,” Fox said. “Because I love this community.”

Now that she won both seats, Fox said she will accept the at-large position, which she described as a “new challenge.”

While 3rd Ward represents only the West Tarentum section of town, the at-large position represents Tarentum as a whole.

Her decision leaves the 3rd Ward office open, though. Although the seat received 10 write-in votes Tuesday, protocol states that the spot must now be filled by appointment.

Fox said council members have not yet begun discussions to fill the position.

Fox’s priorities for this term include improving infrastructure, fighting against blight and securing funding for community recreation, which she said is a passion.

“There’s still a lot of work to be done and I’d just like to keep moving forward, doing what’s best for the town.”
