Cateau Beach Dog Park is planned for Oakmont Borough along Allegheny Avenue.

Dog owners in Oakmont will soon have a green space to take their pets.

Construction is set to begin on Monday at the site of Chateau Beach Dog Park along Allegheny Avenue, borough officials said. The one-acre park is meant to give dogs a space where they can roam off-leash, something otherwise prohibited in the borough.

Once completed, dogs will be allowed to play and run. A 6-foot-high chain link fence will surround the park, and the facility will be locked each night.

The park will include separate areas for small and large dogs. A gravel lot will be available for parking.

In total, the cost of the dog park is estimated at just over $200,000.

Council President Nancy Ride said neighbors were informed of the construction’s start.

“It’s good,” she said about the project.

According to a social media post from the borough, the park is anticipated to open in six to eight weeks.
