A Greensburg man is accused of stealing more than $8,000 worth of industrial metal from his Upper Burrell employer in just one month.

A video arraignment was held Friday for Jeffrey Alexander Hart, 31, of Kenneth Street, who was being held in the Westmoreland County jail.

In Hart’s arrest report, Upper Burrell police Chief Kenneth Pate said Hart was an employee of JK Tool and Die on Prominence Drive.

According to the report, company management told Hart not to work before or after his regular shift. However, records from the company’s security door show Hart’s ID was used to enter the shop 12 times after his shifts ended.

The entries happened between March 4 and April 3.

Hart is accused of taking about 340 pounds of tungsten carbide worth about $8,000 as well as more than 400 pounds of copper and 260 pounds of brass.

According to police, records show Hart took the metal a little at a time to Greco’s Scrap Inc. in East Deer. That company paid him $1,525 for pieces of carbide and $1,190 for the copper and brass.

Pate said a Greco’s employee identified photos of the metal pieces and had copies of 12 sales receipts given to Hart.

Photos of the metal appeared on the scrap theft alert system established by the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries Inc.
