The Allegheny County Health Department is investigating complaints about a white dust in parts of Harrison.

The department has received at least five complaints since the beginning of August, according to Jim Kelly, deputy director of environmental health.

Opal Court residents have complained about white dust being found on cars and houses in the past, and at least two of the recent complaints have come from people living there.

At least three of the other complaints came from people living along nearby High Street.

Kelly described the number of recent complaints as “unusually high” and said they came from a broader area than in the past.

“We continue to gather more information and will determine the appropriate course of action once our investigation is complete,” Kelly said.

Township Manager Rich Hill said the township had not received any complaints.

Commissioners President Bill Heasley said he was unaware of the recent complaints. He recalled complaints made years ago being traced to a slag dump behind Heights Plaza.
