After nearly a year’s wait, Jersey Mike’s in Harrison is open.

The specialty sub shop celebrated its opening Wednesday at Highlands Mall on Freeport Road, near Walmart.

A manager who answered the phone said the restaurant had gotten an overwhelming response by lunchtime.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.

Jersey Mike’s filled the space formerly occupied by Game Stop.

Founded in 1956, the restaurant is headquartered in Manasquan, N.J. The franchise has about 3,500 locations across the U.S., Canada and elsewhere.

The closest location is in Harmar. Other locations include Blawnox, Monroeville and Murrysville, according to the company’s website.

Jersey Mike’s subs are made to order. Menu items include hot and cold sandwiches, sides, desserts and drinks.
