A Rostraver woman was killed Wednesday when her car collided with a tri-axle truck on Route 51 in the township.
Police identified the victim as Anna Mae Selembo, 86. Authorities said her 2004 Toyota Camry was struck by a tri-axle truck at the highway’s intersection with Gallitin Road about 10:45 a.m. She was dead at the scene.
The Westmoreland County Coroner’s Office said Selembo died of blunt force injuries It ruled that her death was an accident. Selembo was not wearing a seat belt and her car’s air bags did not deploy, the coroner said.
Authorities said the section of the road remained closed for more than three hours while authorities investigated.
Police said Selembo’s car was traveling north on Gallitin Road, stopped at the intersection and then crossed over the northbound lanes of Route 51, where it was struck by the tri-axle truck. Police said the 2003 Peterbilt tri-axle, driven by Roy Waggoner, 61, of Monongahela was headed northbound.
Police said Waggoner was not injured.
An investigation indicated that Selembo’s car “drove directly into the path of the tri-axle, which resulted in the accident,” police said.
Officials said they do not believe cell phone use played a role in the crash.
Township police were assisted at the scene by the state police accident reconstruction team, Rostraver and West Newton EMS, Rostraver Central Fire Department, the county detective forensic investigator and West Newton Police.
