In an appeal filed this week, the lawyer for a Greensburg man ordered to serve what is likely to amount to a life prison term for the rape of a 5-year-old child claims the sentence is too long.

Charles Jason Hunter was sentenced to serve 84 to 168 years in prison. In April he was convicted on 22 counts, including rape of a child, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and child pornography offenses. He was charged in 2018 after his mother gave police a copy of the video, which she received from his then-girlfriend.

“The aggregate sentence is unduly harsh, considering the nature of the crimes and length of imprisonment,” defense attorney Douglas Sepic wrote.

Corby Jo Kinzey, 28, of Greensburg, also was charged in the case. She pleaded guilty in June and is awaiting sentencing.

In the appeal, Hunter also claims the evidence presented against him at trial was insufficient to support the convictions and is seeking a new trial.
