Mt. Pleasant Township man convicted in gun case

A Mt. Pleasant Township man was convicted Thursday of illegally having multiple firearms.

Jurors deliberated for about an hour before returning the guilty verdict on nine counts of unlawful possession of a firearm. Authorities said Michael Charles Lint, 36, was not permitted to have weapons because of past felony convictions.

Testimony in the case began Tuesday and wrapped up Thursday. Prosecutors presented seven witnesses. The defense did not offer any testimony, according to court filings.

State troopers arrested Lint in May 2019 after an ex-girlfriend told authorities that she gave him four weapons that he refused to return after they separated. During a search of his home, police said in court papers that they found several guns.

Ten additional counts in the case will be tried at a later date, according to the court filing. Those charges include theft, receiving stolen property and altering the serial numbers of the guns. Two of the firearms police said they found at Lint’s home had been reported stolen.

A sentencing hearing will be scheduled in about 90 days. A pretrial conference for the remaining charges will be held after that, according to the filing.
