Recently several guys were opining for a resumption of the Pitt-Penn State rivalry. I agree. However, I would like to expand on the idea. For want of a better term, let’s call it the expanded backyard brawl.
Every year Pitt, Penn State and also WVU should play each other. That’s two games out of each school’s 11-game schedule. Is that asking too much? There isn’t a graduate from the three schools who gives a rat’s butt about their conference commitments or a need to fill their stadiums on Saturday. As I recall, it was Joe Paterno who broke up the Big East when he decided to join the Big Ten.
I’ve been to several games in Morgantown and everyone had a good time. I froze once in the old Three Rivers Stadium watching Tony Dorsett run for 300 yards against Penn State.
Here’s one that I need help with. Please. Why are Maryland and Rutgers now in the expanded Big Ten and not Pitt and WVU? The Big Ten was originally a Midwest conference. Pitt and WVU are closer to the Midwest than Maryland and Rutgers. Finally, allowing West Coast teams into the Big Ten is an abomination.
We are Penn State.
