I was shocked to see my neighbors’ home featured in your July 10 article, “People ‘abusing’ Greensburg brush pickup program.” The picture implies my neighbors “abuse” this program. I can tell you, driving past it daily for weeks, that their “large pile of brush” is no bigger than leaf piles left in the street during autumn cleanup.

I saw egregious piles — 20 feet long, 5 feet high — left in city streets this spring. It is of piles like this the Public Works Department is complaining.

I have known the family of my Rowan Avenue neighbors for over 30 years. They are upstanding citizens, living in the city for multiple generations. They belong to civic organizations, committed to Greensburg’s vitality. I say this not because such individuals could not “abuse the system,” but rather to speak to their character.

I do not think that my neighbors deserved to be shamed for their use of the city’s brush pickup program. They did nothing wrong.
