Letter to the editor: Kash Patel should not lead FBI

Tribune-Review

As citizens, we don’t often talk about (or even know) what the FBI has stopped from happening. It has been reported the FBI prevented attacks on employees on the first night of Hanukkah, the stop of a terrorist attack in Houston and the attempt in Nashville to use a weapon of mass destruction and destroy an energy facility. Along with working to prevent terrorist activities, hate crimes, cybercrime, white-collar crime, public corruption and civil rights violations, they also protect the secrets of the U.S. government.

Kash Patel is not the person we want leading this organization. He lacks experience. I don’t believe he will maintain independence from political influence. He has said he will target the press and civil servants and revoke security clearances of people who participated in investigations against Donald Trump. He calls himself a member of Trump’s army.

I predict the FBI under Patel will not be focused on preventing real threats against our friends, neighbors, relatives, fellow Americans, churches, synagogues, schools, power plants, water systems, power grid, our festivals and celebrations and sporting and entertainment events; hate crimes like the one against the Tree of Life synagogue will become more frequent. The FBI needs to continue to work to protect all of us, not just our politicians.

I know the FBI is not perfect, but we need it to remain strong. Fellow patriots and Sens. John Fetterman and Dave McCormick, Kash Patel is not the man for this job.
