Letter to the editor: Protests will prod politicians to get back to work
I would like to see more protests at the county seat and state capital … for real! All the furloughed and laid-off state and county workers should spend their newly acquired time (no job to go to) rallying to get the budget passed.
And how about seeing work stoppages? That will get the attention of the Harrisburg politicians. School districts feeling the financial strain would make the biggest impact. Close the schools and suspend sports activities. No money to heat the buildings and fuel the buses. Social services and transit services should halt operations also.
The politicians are not doing their jobs but yet are still getting paid. Not one entity in Pennsylvania that relies on state funding should have to take loans out to “get by” during this budget impasse. And as our politicians see that everyone is “getting by” just fine, they don’t feel the need to do their job. Let that sink in.
