Letter to the editor: Trafford will become a transit desert

Tribune-Review

Trafford’s only fixed route bus service is on the chopping block — but it doesn’t have to be this way. You can help us save the Trafford bus.

Trafford is in danger of losing its fixed route bus service unless Pittsburgh Regional Transit receives secure funding from the state. Westmoreland County does not provide fixed route service to Trafford. Currently, the 69 Trafford bus provides daily round-the-clock service to Pittsburgh. If adequate funding is not secured, service to Trafford will end in February 2026.

Trafford residents who depend on the bus will lose access to shopping, medical appointments (including Forbes Hospital), employment and educational institutions, as well as families and friends. Many of the residents of Trafford Manor, our residence for seniors and those with disabilities, do not drive. Also, people take the bus to Trafford to work and to visit local businesses and families.

The good news is that there is a path forward. The Transit for All PA! campaign has put forward commonsense solutions that give enough funding to transit agencies — without raising taxes on individuals.

You can help us win more transportation access for our communities by calling Sen. Kim Ward today (724-600-7002) and asking her to support transit funding for our communities.
