Letter to the editor: Transparency, accountability matter in West Leechburg

Tribune-Review

Our community deserves transparency. Time and again, residents of West Leechburg have watched as decisions are made without full consideration of resident comment, discussions are cut short and legitimate concerns are brushed aside. Council meetings — which should be open, honest spaces for community dialogue — have instead become predictable displays of avoidance and control.

Residents have every right to be heard. We’re not outsiders or troublemakers for asking questions, attending meetings or proposing fair changes to outdated ordinances. We are neighbors, taxpayers and voters who care deeply about the direction of this borough. Yet when residents are met with dismissive attitudes and selective enforcement of rules, it erodes trust and makes people feel their voice doesn’t matter.

West Leechburg’s future depends on leadership that listens, collaborates and respects the people it represents. The upcoming mayor’s seat is on the ballot this November, and this is an opportunity for real change. I strongly urge every resident to write in someone you believe in — someone who values honesty, inclusion and transparency over politics and personal power.

It’s time for leadership that works with the people, not around them. West Leechburg can only move forward when its council and mayor operate with integrity and openness. We, the residents, deserve nothing less.
