Letter to the editor: Trump's actions show who he is

Tribune-Review

President Trump likes to say he is a law-and-order president. It justifies his militarizing our streets, sending federal law enforcement to cities that don’t want or need those troops, and spending about $28 billion annually on ICE agents who act like thugs and terrorize our fellow citizens and human beings.

However, look at what he does. He pardons convicted criminals at will. This year alone, he has pardoned over a dozen criminals convicted of fraud, tax evasion, bribery and corruption. Trump is accused of these exact charges. “Birds of a feather flock together.” I guess all these criminals had to do was give Trump money or support his causes. He also freed Paul Manafort, Gen. Michael Flynn and Steve Bannon.

The president’s most inexcusable pardons were for the more than 1,500 people charged after the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, simply because they supported Trump. No concern was given to the more than 100 police officers who were injured or those who lost their lives. No alarms were raised that the mob tried to subvert our democracy, ignore our votes and violate the Capitol. Jan. 6 will surely be remembered as one of the darkest days in American history — the day a candidate tried to steal an election.

No matter what Trump may say, his actions reveal what kind of man he is.
