Our too-clever-by-half commander in chief, President Donald Trump, has, with the change of one word, managed to flummox Republican members of Congress, rewrite the U.S. Constitution and likely have our nation’s Founders rolling over in their graves. Trump has said our war against Iran is just an “excursion.” Take that, Congress. You only have the constitutional power to declare war, but none when it comes to an excursion. Gotcha!
Trump also claims the war … oops, excursion, was won on the first day of our attack on Iran. Forget the fact U.S. troops are dead, with hundreds others wounded. Trump seems to want us to ignore his request for an additional $200 billion to pay for his excursion and the ongoing deployment of tens of thousands of our military forces. He seems to wish for us to pretend our misguided Tomahawk missile, which existing evidence shows killed school children and their teachers , never happened.
I am having difficulty understanding why we are again destroying Iran’s nuclear weapons-producing capacity, when we were told just months ago they had been obliterated by the U.S. war machine. Maybe it is because we are now using excursion missiles. Go figure!
Trump’s distinction-without-a-difference word-changing must mean little to the victims of his so-called excursion. Gold Star families and others still grieve.
I’ll not understand this war/excursion until I see Trump’s son, Barron, in uniform and leading the attack on whatever he chooses to call it. I’ll not hold my breath.
