Letter to the editor: Trump's tyranny like past purges

Tribune-Review

President Trump’s tyrannical purge in government, media, education, military, intelligence, etc., is no different than any past authoritarian purge. The subterfuge that people are being removed for incompetence or fraud is the fraud. The goal more likely is to eliminate dissent and challenges to the regime. Mao Tse-Tung’s Little Red Book, the Communist Manifesto and “Mein Kampf” have been replaced by Project 2025, DOGE and executive orders.

Perhaps Trump may not even be a legitimate president. We live in an age where a Black voter can be purged from the voting rolls merely on the word of a vigilante (see reporter Greg Palast’s reports and his movie “Vigilantes, Inc.”). Trump’s True the Vote vigilantes spurred by the spurious “2,000 Mules” documentary reportedly challenged legitimate voters across America. Jim Crow revived in America. Operation Eagle Eye of the 1960s has been transformed into Eagle AI to challenge voters of color.

Trump’s intolerable acts since the election have been attacked as unconstitutional and a violation of the separation of powers. America should adhere to John Locke’s 1690 Second Treatise on Government: “Wherever law ends, tyranny begins … and, whosoever in authority exceeds the power given him by the law and makes use of the force he has under his command … ceases in that to be a magistrate; and, acting without authority, may be opposed, as any other man, who by force invades the right of another.”

The crisis is upon us. Common sense demands: “Stop Trump now, or the Republic dies!”
