Knoch grad Jordan Geist claims shot put silver at Pan American Games
Knoch grad Jordan Geist captured a silver medal in the men’s shot put Wednesday evening at the Pan American Games in Lima, Peru.
In third after the three throws of the opening round and fourth overall after the first two throws of the finals, Geist unleashed a throw of 20.67 meters (67 feet, 8 inches) on his final attempt of the competition.

Brazil’s Darlan Romani, fifth in the shot at the 2016 Summer Olympics, won gold and set a new Pan American Games record with a toss of 22.07 meters.
Geist, a rising junior at Arizona, qualified for the finals with an attempt of 20.16 (66-1) on his second throw of the opening round.
He slipped to fourth after his fourth throw (19.27), as Mexico’s Galarza Munoz moved into medal position with a throw of 20.32.
Munoz and Geist remained third and fourth, respectively, after round five. Munoz recorded his best of the meet — 20.56 — in his sixth and final throw.
Canadian Timothy Nedow took fourth (20.48), while Jamaican O’Dayne Richards, who came into the competition as the Pan American record holder, finished fifth (20.07).
