Bryan Grejtak had just turned 50 when he won the Westmoreland County Senior Amateur last year.

Now he has a bull’s eye on his polo as he attempts for a repeat title Sunday at the Latrobe Elks.

Grejtak of Latrobe finished the 27-hole event by shooting a 3-under-par 105. He edged 2017 champion Dave Antill and Greensburg’s Arnie Cutrell, who each shot a 2-under 106.

A field of 24 will compete for the title.

Two players who won’t be competing are Vince Zachetti, who is on vacation, and Sean Knapp, who is playing in the United States Golf Association’s Senior Amateur in Durham, N.C.

“We have a good field,” tournament director Bob Allshouse said. “We changed our format, so we expected a drop off in competitors.”

The change was to drop handicaps for the tournament.

The Super Senior winner last year was Greensburg’s Mike McGuire, who won on a scorecard playoff to become the second Latrobe Elks member to win the title. Tim Bryan won in ‘16.

Grejtak did his damage on the back nine during both rounds. He strung together three consecutive birdies (Nos. 16-17-18) to finish round one. He had two birdies on the final nine, including a tap-in birdie on No. 18 to seal the victory.

“I knew I had to birdie the final hole because I knew Arnie and Dave would,” Grejtak said. “I thought Arnie made the eagle putt on the final hole and we were headed to a playoff. He had great speed. It just missed.”
