The Penguins acquired forwar Alex Galchenyuk this past offseason in a trade with the Arizona Coyotes.

Penguins forward Alex Galchenyuk was held out of a 4-2 preseason victory against the Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday due to an undisclosed injury according to head coach Mike Sullivan.

The Penguins scratched Galchenyuk for precautionary reasons per Sullivan, who characterized the ailment as “nagging.”

The primary return in an offseason trade which sent star forward Phil Kessel to the Arizona Coyotes, Galchenyuk participated in the morning skate and was teamed on a line with Evgeni Malkin and Bryan Rust. Dominik Kahun replaced Galchenyuk on the line during the game.

Kahun had 14 minutes, 37 seconds of ice time on 19 shifts and one shot.

Galchenyuk is expected to begin the season on Malkin’s left wing. During his lone preseason game to date, he scored a power-play goal during a 4-1 home win against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Sept. 19.

Follow the Penguins all season long.
