“The Password” got the MLB call.
The Pittsburgh Pirates recalled 23-year-old outfielder Jhostynxon Garcia on Tuesday ahead of their series opener at the St. Louis Cardinals.
Garcia, the Pirates’ No. 4 overall prospect who was acquired from the Boston Red Sox in exchange for pitcher Johan Oviedo last December, started in right field and batted sixth Tuesday..
Last season, the 6-foot native of San Fernando de Apure, Venezuela, appeared in five games with the Red Sox.
Garcia fills a hole created by the absence of Ryan O’Hearn, who headed to the injured list last weekend with a quad injury that could sideline him for several weeks.
Garcia himself navigated an injury earlier in the year, leading to a rehab assignment with Low-A Bradenton in early May.
Struggling offensively to begin the season with Triple-A Indianapolis, Garcia, after returning to full health, has seemed to find his swing with the Indians. After being activated from the injured list May 12, he’s gone 6 for 16 (.375).
At Low-A and Triple-A in May, Garcia has gone a combined 14 for 38 (.368) with two doubles, six home runs and 10 RBIs.
On May 12, when he returned to the Indians lineup, Garcia turned in a 5-for-5 performance, hitting three solo home runs.
Overall, through 25 minor-league contests this season, Garcia is slashing .242/.291/.463 with six home runs and 13 RBIs.
Garcia also showed power with the Red Sox organization.
Last season, he hit 21 homers with 75 RBIs, splitting the season between Double-A and Triple-A.
The prior year, he clubbed 23 home runs with 66 RBIs, advancing to Double-A for the first time.
At the time of his trade to Pittsburgh, Garcia was ranked as Boston’s No. 6 overall prospect.
Garcia has appeared in 395 career minor-league games. His big-league action with Boston was from Aug. 22-28, 2025.
