Justin Champagnie, a 6-foot-5, four-star wing player from Brooklyn, N.Y., signed his letter of intent with Pitt after verbally committing to coach Jeff Capel in March.

“Justin is a high-energy player who competes hard on every possession,” Capel said in a statement. “He has the skill set and versatility to impact the game in a variety of ways and has shown the toughness to make winning plays.”

Champagnie, a second-team All-USA New York team selection, led Bishop Loughlin (23-4, 13-3) to a first-place finish in the BQ Diocesan League. Bishop Loughlin was ranked No. 11 in New York State Sportwriters Association (NYSSWA) team rankings.

Champagnie averaged 19.8 points, reaching at least 20 in 13 games.

He was a fifth-team Class AA NYSSWA all-state selection after averaging 16.1 points, 6.9 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game during the 2017-18 season. This season’s selections have not been announced, but he is ranked No. 111 nationally and No. 3 in the state of New York by 247Sports.

Last summer, he averaged 19.6 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.3 blocks for New Heights on the AAU circuit.

Champagnie chose Pitt over scholarship offers from Cincinnati, Dayton, Rhode Island, Richmond, Rutgers, Saint Louis, Seton Hall, Temple and VCU.
