Seven days after releasing him, the Pittsburgh Steelers brought back former Penn State wide receiver Saeed Blacknall.
The Steelers announced the signing of Blacknall on Friday. In the corresponding move, they released undrafted rookie outside linebacker James Lockhart.
The Steelers were up to seven outside linebackers on the 80-man camp roster after they signed veteran Jayrone Elliott on Thursday. Friday’s move gives them nine wide receivers. At most, six will make the active roster with another two probable for the practice squad.
The 6-foot-2, 208-pound Blacknall, who played in the XFL this spring, spent the past two NFL seasons with the Las Vega Raiders, Phoenix Cardinals and Miami Dolphins organizations. He has appeared in one NFL regular-season game (in 2018 for Oakland).
Lockhart’s release means only four of the 10 undrafted free agents the Steelers signed in April are still on the camp roster.
Blacknall was cut Aug. 21 to make room for receiver Ray-Ray McCloud, who has been impressive during his week with the team.
