Tim Benz, Kevin Gorman break down Steelers’ Day 2 draft picks
After trading up to get Devin Bush in Round 1 of the NFL draft on Thursday, Day 2 was a lot more calm at Steelers headquarters.
The organization stayed locked in at picks 66 and 83 in the third round. Lots of cornerbacks and wide receivers came tumbling off the board. But the Steelers drafted those positions anyway, as they remain areas of need.
Ironically, the thre positions the Steelers addressed in free agency are the ones they’ve also addressed in the draft: inside linebacker, corner back, and wide receiver.
The wide receiver who was drafted is Diontae Johnson from Toledo. He’s got a lot of similarities to Antonio Brown in terms of size, resume, versatility, and scouting reports.
Let’s see if his personality is a little better.
Justin Layne was the second pick of the third round. He’s a corner from Michigan State with size. Layne is 6-foot-2 and a converted wide receiver with 4.45 speed.
