The Allegheny County Fire Marshal will investigate a February boat fire after the sunken vessel was lifted from the Allegheny River on Tuesday.

The boat was recovered from its dock at the Fox Chapel Yacht Club, off Old Freeport Road in O’Hara.

“Now that the boat has been raised, the cause and origin investigation will continue,” county police Superintendent Coleman McDonough said.

The fire occurred in the early morning hours of Feb. 22.

Owner Mike McAndrews said he was living on the boat and got out just before it sank about 5 a.m.

McAndrews, a real estate agent, said he was living his dream on the water. Watching the fire destroy his home was heartbreaking, he said.

“I woke up in the middle of the night and it was on fire,” he said. “My home sank. It was a very sad day for me.”
