Troopers quickly track down Unity bank robbery suspect in Penn Hills
State police arrested a Penn Hills man accused of robbing a Westmoreland County bank on Thursday and making off with more than $4,000.
Video surveillance from businesses surrounding the First National Bank in Unity Township led them to arrest Demetryaiss Llamar Holyfield, 25, police said.
He was arraigned Friday and jailed on $50,000 bond.
Police said a man entered the Route 30 bank around 11 a.m. and passed a note demanding $70,000 and threatening to stab the teller. The suspect fled in a Nissan Juke that troopers were able to see on video surveillance.
The suspect was seen parking at a car wash before driving away after noticing a surveillance camera, police said. Investigators were able to get the vehicle’s registration and track Holyfield down by 6:30 p.m. Thursday. Police reported finding $3,500 and the demand note at his home, according to court records.
Holyfield is charged with robbery, theft and related offenses. He did not have an attorney listed in online court records. A Jan. 28 preliminary hearing is set.
